Professionals in the writing industry are often considered sticklers for grammar rules; however, today’s Grammar Time is all about modern usage and why someone might choose to use the singular‘“they.”
Passive voice isn’t considered an actual error in writing; however, it can have pretty far-reaching effects on the clarity of your writing. If you’ve ever reread through an email you sent or through a blog post you wrote and noticed that your writing has a muddled or congested feel, you might have a problem with passive voice.
Nick has always been good at English courses (the fact that his father is an English literature professor might have helped a little). He studied English language and linguistics at Brigham Young University, with a double minor in editing and music. His love of the English language shows in several other ways besides editing, including taking a class on constructing new languages and spouting out lots of puns in the nick of time!
