It’s summer! That means you’re out there enjoying the weather and beautiful nature. To celebrate summertime, we’re holding a summer-themed haiku contest. Wow us with your poetry skills!
The haiku is a form of poetry primarily about nature. A haiku has three lines with five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third. These short, descriptive poems challenge you to capture the world around you with brevity and detail.
Prizes
Winner: $75
2 Runners-up: $25
Final Submission Due Date
You must enter your submission to the form below by 8:00 a.m. MST on Monday, August 19.
Announcement of Winners
We will announce contest winners on the blog on Thursday, August 22.
Content Criteria
You can submit as many haiku as you like! However, you are not eligible to win more than one prize.
We’ll judge the submissions with three criteria in mind:
- Does the poem follow the structure of a haiku? Does it have no more than three lines, and does it follow the syllable count per line?
- Is the poem about nature? Does it capture or describe an aspect of summer?
- Is the poem polished and enjoyable to read?
As always, keep our general contest rules in mind, and remember that WritersDomain does not accept explicit content.
