As an avid outdoor adventurer, I enjoy blogging about my adventures to the various national parks. And like the true writer I am, these posts often get procrastinated. Sometimes it’s weeks or even months before I finally sit down to write about my experiences.
Luckily, I have a lot of photos to jog my memory about what I did on a particular trip. Those photos become invaluable to my writing process because I often can’t remember which trips included which hikes.
Specific music also helps me sift through my photos and memories. I meticulously curate playlists for different times of the year and even different trips, so it’s a great tool to help me recall how I felt at a certain time. Or it helps me remember a small but silly moment, like my friends singing songs from Moana as we motivate ourselves to hike just a little bit further.
No matter what kind of writing you love, carefully creating playlists can keep you motivated and inspired. Maybe you need to get into the mindset of a specific character in your novel. Or you may be writing a blog for an industrial & manufacturing client and simply need to power through to get it done.
Here’s a road trip/hiking playlist I created during my 2017 travels that’s been essential to my blogging process. To start creating your own writing playlists, think of songs that remind you of memories or even other pieces of writing you’ve done. Once you identify how certain writing feels in song form, you can use new songs to influence your creativity further.
So that’s a quick look at how I use music playlists to remember fun trips. What kinds of music help enhance your memory? Share your playlist tips below.
